Atalanta Running Desktop Site Redesign

Overview:

Atalanta NYC is a non-profit focused on supporting professional female runners and mentoring within youth programs. The goal of this particular project was to create a website that would serve to promote the organisation, gather newsletter subscriptions and provide a portal for donations.
Role:

UX Designer. Working independently, my role was to gather user research, build site maps & create UI concepts to present to Atalanta NYC.
Process:

I chose to employ IBM’s design thinking strategy. While this process has five distinct phases, some are repeated multiple times in a design loop in order to narrow down the perfect solution for the client. Understanding the organisation’s core mission and how they interact with their supporters was critical. The design needed to portray their approachable personality while maintaining clarity and professionalism to attract supporters.
Personas:

In total, eight different personas were created. These personas were amalgamations of the different demographics that were interviewed. The personas help to inform and guide the designs during the project. The end result, ideally, solves the problems that these personas are facing.
Insights:

With an understanding of the organisations’ target audience, I considered the users’ journeys through various scenarios and steps towards the their goals. Combining these ideas with the organisation’s goals, I identified the requirements and features of the website.
Site Map:

By working through the customers needs in the previous steps, I established a basic site map to visualise how users would interact with each page and the information required therein. Key requirements included CTAs for subscriptions and donations and an abundance of background information to build trust with the potential supporters.
Wireframes:

Based on the information already gathered and considered, I created wireframes of the various website pages. This is an invaluable step when considering different designs and grid. Moving on to low fidelity mock-ups also helps the client to visualise the site taking shape.
Designs:

Atalanta NYC is distinctly different than other non-profits within the running world in terms of their mission and how they operate. The design needed to embody their approachable and youthful ideology. The primary and secondary goals were to gather subscriptions and secure donations, respectively. The colours are striking and reference a running track while the typography is simple and clear.

Having created high fidelity mockups based on the wireframes, I went followed an iterative process of implementing changes based on user feedback and testing to ensure functionality and responsiveness. The website can be broken up in to six sections: Home, Mission, Team, Media, Join, Donate.
